A trite or obvious remark"
Trite (adj) = Repeated too often; overfamiliar through overuse.
เราไปเปิดดิกอีกเล่มหนึ่งเขาแปล cliche' ไว้ว่า "a form of expression that has been so often used that its original effectiveness has been lost" แล้วยกตัวอย่างไว้ว่า
Every time I ask my dad for some money, he always comes out with the old cliche', "It doesn't grow on tree, you know"
อีกฝ่ายก็จะต้องทำหน้าซาบซึ้งและตอบกลับไปว่า I love you too.

มาเพิ่มเติม ใน COBUILD แปลไว้ว่า " an idea or phrase which has been used so much that it is no longer interesting or effective " อย่างที่นิจว่า คือเป็นคำพูดที่ใครๆก็พูด พูดแล้วก็งั้นๆ ใน dictionary ยกตัวอย่างดีมากว่า " It has become a cliche to discribe Asia-Pacific as the world's most dynamic economic area" ตัวอย่างนี้คงใช้ได้ก่อนเกิด วิกฤตเศรษฐกิจน่ะนะ หรือเช่นคำพูดไทยๆอย่างเช่น ทำดีได้ดี ทำชั่วได้ชั่ว มันกลายเป็น cliche ไปแล้ว
